Help us to get the right interpreter for you with our top tips
Before calling us for an interpreting quote, try and have as much information to hand as possible about your interpreting project. Not only will this ultimately save you time but it will enable us to source an interpreter who meets your specifications.
Before you call, it would be great if you could answer these questions!
- When and where is the assignment?
If you know this, we’ll be able to look in our extensive database to find a conveniently situated interpreter who is available on the date of your event.
- How long will the assignment last?
Whether the assignment lasts for one hour or three days, we need to know about it! These details may have implications for our interpreters’ rates, for example if a hotel stay is required.
- What is your event?
If we know this, our project managers will be able to decide which mode of interpreting will best suit your needs and ensure maximum satisfaction at your event. Is it a conference, which will require simultaneous interpreting? Or is it an interview, in which case consecutive interpreting would be best?
- What is the nature of your meeting? Is it medical, legal or financial?
Knowing this beforehand will enable us to source an interpreter who has expertise in the relevant subject area, which will facilitate an accurate, error-free interpreting service.
- What language pairs will be required (languages to be interpreted from and into)?
Let us know so that we can source an interpreter who works in your desired language pair from any one of our 2000+ combinations! It is also important for us to know of any dialectal variations that may affect communication. Some languages are spoken in many countries and having an interpreter who is unprepared for dialectal variation may lead to mistranslations and communication errors.
- Is your meeting confidential?
Our interpreters always sign Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) before they undertake interpreting work for us. However, if you are still concerned, let us know and we will be able to reassure you of the strict measures that we take to ensure that your privacy is respected.
Providing us with the above information and any other useful details you can think of will mean that we can process your request quickly and efficiently. We’ll be able to get started on finding you the best interpreter straight away, and you’ll have peace of mind knowing that we’re sorting everything out for you.
If you don’t have all of this information to hand, are new to interpreting or just don’t really know what you need, don’t worry! Give us a ring and speak with one of our Project Managers who are well-versed in all matters interpreting. Whatever you need, we’ll be on hand to guide you through your assignment and find the right interpreter for you.
We never compromise on quality. Neither should you.
The cheapest interpreting quote is not always the best (and neither is the most expensive, come to that!). Interpreting is a highly specialised field, requiring years of intensive training and practice before interpreters become skilled enough to work for us. You are paying for highly qualified linguists who will transmit your message as it was intended. Remember: “Pay peanuts and you’ll get monkeys!”
There is usually a three-hour minimum charge for interpreting assignments. Even if you expect the meeting to last half an hour, this ensures that the interpreter is there for the full duration of your meeting and you won’t incur any unforeseen costs. Remember: meetings involving interpreting usually take at least double the normal time, as everything has to be repeated. Having the three-hour minimum charge ensures that even if your meeting overruns, you will not be left without a professional interpreter.
But I need an interpreter now!
If you don’t have time for us to source an interpreter to attend to your needs in person, don’t forget that we have a professional telephone interpreting service, Lingua Talk, available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year! Don’t be left short – click here to find out more.
